Mr. Donnie entered into this life on Feb. 18, 1928 in Cotton Valley and passed in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Oct. 22, 2011.
Dad’s formative years began in the depression-era oilfields of north Louisiana, south Arkansas, and east Texas, finally settling in Ringgold for the majority of his life.
Upon graduation from Ringgold High School in 1945, Dad volunteered for service in the United States Army as a member of the occupation forces in Nagoya, Japan attached to the Military Police.
After completing military service in 1947, Dad returned home to Ringgold and married his high school sweetheart, Martha Bea Woodard on Sept. 1, 1948. During the early years of their marriage, Dad attended and graduated from Northwestern State College in 1951 with a degree in Business Education and while at Northwestern, Dad was a proud member of the Demons Football Team. In ensuing years, Dad went on to earn a Master's Degree at Northwestern in 1968.
Dad’s lifelong career was devoted to education and began as a business instructor at the Bienville Trades School.
Subsequently, Dad served as Counselor at Ringgold High School, Asst. Director of Northwest Louisiana Vo-Tech at Minden, and finally as Director of Shreveport/Bossier Vo-Tech at retirement.
As a member of what’s come to be considered our “Greatest Generation,” Dad’s was a life spent in service to others as a Royal Ambassadors Leader, Young Adults Sunday School Teacher and Deacon at First Baptist Church of Ringgold. Dad was also a member of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana and a Shriner. Many of Dad’s fondest memories revolve around the Boy Scouts of Troop 112 and the members of his RA group at FBC Ringgold.
After his Lord, family was first in Dad’s life and his greatest joy was contributing to the lives of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dad was an accomplished hunter and fisherman. Dad always enjoyed demonstrating his prowess at finding a big bed of Chinquapins on Lake Bistineau and showing his younger brother Horace how to catch them.

After Mom’s passing in 2000, the Lord led Dad and Mrs. Helen Tipton to each other at a time in their lives appointed by Him. Dad and “Miss Helen” were married on August 4, 2001 and spent the remaining years of his life happily married to and caring for each other.
