MMC adds ‘Happy’ doctor

New pediatrician believes attitude is contagious

As a parent of two children, Dr. Cristal Kirby understands the trust that must be built between parents and a physician as they treat a child. She truly cares about her patients and looks forward to seeing them grow up to be healthy and productive adults.

Dr. Kirby has chosen to bring her expertise in Pediatrics and love of children to Minden and Minden Medical Center.

"We were looking for several specific qualities when my husband and I were deciding where to move and we found them in Minden," said Dr. Kirby. "We wanted a community that was of this size, where people were friendly and a positive environment where we can raise our family.

"The next challenge was to find a hospital and medical personnel that was top notch. Minden Medical Center fit that and more," she continued.

Dr. Kirby earned her Medical Doctorate Degree from Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

She completed her Internship and Pediatric Residency at Pitt County Memorial Hospital-Greenville, in Greenville, North Carolina.

Dr. Kirby enjoys biking, swimming and spending time with her husband, Paul, and their two children, Madison and Alyssa.

"Happy" is the word she uses to describe herself.

"I have found that happy doctors who love what they do, give great patient care ... and their attitude is contagious," she said.

Dr. Kirby treats children who are sick and who are well. As a child's physician she provides the following:

Preventive health maintenance for healthy children

Medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill

She manages the physical, mental and emotional well-being of her patients in every stage of development. In good health or in illness, she works to:

Reduce infant and child mortality

Control infectious disease

Foster healthy lifestyles

Ease the difficulties of children and adolescents with chronic conditions

Dr. Kirby focuses on the prevention, early detection and management of other problems that affect children and adolescents including:

Behavior Difficulties

Developmental Disorders

Functional Problems

Social Stresses

Depression or Anxiety Disorders

Dr. Kirby has joined Dr. Michael Ulich at Minden Pediatrics and is now accepting new patients (newborn to 21 years) at their new location 1232 Sheppard Street in Minden. Appointments may be made by calling 371-7733.
