Doyline man arrested for solicitation

thomas_c._craigIn what Springhill authorities are calling a "quicker than usual" turn-around, a Doyline man is behind bars for internet crimes against children.

Thomas C. (Cody) Craig, 24, of the 700 block of Fuller Street in Doyline has been charged with computer aided solicitation of a minor, indecent behavior with a juvenile and obscenity.

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd said Craig made contact with one of his officers – Bryan Montgomery – who is also on the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force.

"It happened really fast," Lynd said. "Two hours after Craig first made contact with Off. Montgomery – whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl – he was on his way to Springhill to meet 'her.'"

Lynd said Montgomery was working an online undercover operation, posing as a 14-year-old female when Craig came online and began chatting with "her."

"Craig told (Montgomery) he wanted to meet 'her' and have sexual intercourse," Lynd said. "He was making very explicit sexual comments."

Arrangements were made to meet at a Springhilll apartment complex, but when Craig arrived, he was met by Montgomery and Lynd.

Craig, who is a registered sex offender, had not been out of prison very long, Lynd said.

He was arrested by Webster Parish Sheriff's deputies Sept 2, 2007 and convicted on a charge of forcible rape Dec. 17, 2007.
