Depression recovery

We learn from depression specialists that our brains are actually quite resilient against depression. It takes at least four underlying causes to bring it on, but at this time in history there are more battling with depression than ever before.

Even that giant of faith, Elijah, succumbed under the strain of weariness and threats. "He. . . came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die" 1 Kings 19:4. But rather than address his request, God provided just what he needed for recovery – rest, good nutrition, water, and correction of his distorted thinking (verses 5 – 18).

David was another who had times of deep discouragement but the recital of God's goodness always seemed to lift him. "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God"

Psalm 42:11. He knew the Source of health, both physical and mental.

If you are one who feels that you are drowning under a load of depression, here's a promise for you. "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour" Isaiah 43:2, 3.

If you just need to know that Someone is there with you to comfort you in your troubles, claim

2 Corinthians 1:3, 4. "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."

Does fear pervade you in your downness? Claim Isaiah 41:10. "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

Come to the One who "healeth the broken in heart" because "He careth for you." Psalm 147:3, 1 Peter 5:7.
