Minden Police have arrested a local couple in connection with stolen vehicles.
Cardarral D. Smith and Shereka Harris, both 24 and listing their address as the 600 block of Chestnut Street have been charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper said four vehicles owned by different individuals were reported stolen from a site where a local man makes mechanical repairs.
"All four vehicles were in need of repair and had been taken to the same location to be worked on," Cropper said. "The man had not gotten around to working on them, and they'd just been sitting there for quite a while."
Smith reportedly told Det. Sgt. Heath Balkom and Det. Sgt. Chris Cheatham that a third party – the brother of the mechanic – had given them permission to get the vehicles and sell them.
"When detectives contacted the brother, he said that was not the case and that he did not have the authority to let them take the cars," Cropper said.
Detectives reportedly located the vehicles at a local scrap yard.
"Smith and Harris contacted a local wrecker service and had the cars picked up," said the chief. "They sold the cars to the wrecker service, and the wrecker service owner sold them to the scrap yard.
"By the time we got to them, three of the four had already been crushed and the fourth had vehicles piled on top of it, getting ready to be crushed," he continued.
