Win moves Warriors to 2-0
SIBLEY — The Lakeside Warriors continued their impressive start to the 2011 football season as they shut-out Lakeview 28-0 to improve their record to 2-0.
The Warrior offense put up more than 300 total yards on offense and the defense shut down the Gators offense to record the shutout.
“It’s very encouraging to be 2-0,” Lakeside head coach Terrence Quarles said. “We’ve been talking about it as a staff and as a team, to just do things differently this year. We want to be focused and try to do everything right and good this will happen. And that’s what has happened so far.”
The Warriors started slow out of the gate and then picked up speed as the game wore on.
“It took us a little time to get started,” Quarles said. “But we were able to put up some points in the second quarter and then we were able to continue that focus through out the game.”
Quarles was pleased with the way his team played on both sides of the ball.
“Offensively, we had some really good plays,” he said. “And that kept us motivated. We had some nice runs and some nice catches and Cody (Poe) made some good throws. Defensively, we were able to maintain our composure and seal the victory.”
Poe led the offense with a good night passing, finishing eight-of-13 for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Jerrell Tellis had two catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Chris Lewis caught four balls for 62 yards including a 54-yard score. Rodney Jenkins had one catch for 46 yards and Roy Doyle had one for 10.
Lakeside’s unbeaten streak will be tested this week, as the Warriors travel to Parkway.
“The kids are happy right now, but we have to get ready for Parkway,” Quarles said. “We face a big challenge this week, but we’re eager to take the field against them. Having played Evangel and Calvary in the past, this will be just another game for us. We’ll continue to set goals and try to accomplish them just as we have all year.”
