"Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest." Matthew 9:38 NASB
Jesus declares that the disciples must be praying for workers. The word "beseech" means to plead fervently, constantly, and consistently for something. We sing the old hymn "Sweet Hour of Prayer" when many believers spend only a very few minutes each day in prayer.
Jesus urges His followers to consistently spend time in prayer and to specifically pray for people to be about the Lord's work. In the next few verses Jesus sends the twelve out to preach the gospel and to minister to the multitudes. Therefore, those who pray must be willing to obey the Lord and go out into the harvest.
Lord Jesus, burden my heart to be a person of prayer and to be about Your work. Teach me to pray and to share the gospel message of forgiveness and salvation with the people I meet today.
