Minden Native named Palos Verdes Penninsula ‘Citizen of the Year’

SANDRA SANDERSThe following was first published by the Palos Verdes Penninsula Chamber of Commerce's "Citizen of the Year" booklet, naming Sandra Sanders, a Minden native and 1953 Minden High graduate, as a recipient.

You may assume that Sandra Sanders, a Minden native, 1953 Minden High graduate and founder and broker/owner of RE/MAX Estate Properties must be smart, determined and self-motivated.

While these things are true, what has really made Sandra so successful over the years are the personal qualities of compassion, kindness, caring for others and a strong moral compass.

She has an unwavering conviction to always do what is right and good. In today's competitive business environment, her persuasive personality and soft Southern charm can ease a tense situation and get deals done.

Her generosity goes beyond typical charity and reaches deep into the lives of individuals. These are the attributes that make Sandra an inspiration to so many.

Sandra and her family moved from Louisiana to Rancho Palos Verdes in 1966. Looking for something to do when her children started school, her husband suggested she get her real estate license.

In 1973, with her license in hand, Sandra launched her journey into the business world. Since founding RE/MAX Palos Verdes Realty in 1984, Sandra's meteoric rise in the real estate industry has been legendary.

From her base here on the Peninsula, Sandra merged and expanded her way throughout the South Bay, reaching all the way to the Westside of Los Angeles.

This unprecedented growth necessitated a new name for the company to reflect the expansive area of service.

Now with over 600 agents, $3 billion in sales volume and offices from the harbor to Beverly Hills, RE/MAX Estate Properties is one of the leading real estate companies in the nation, which she proudly manages with her three children.

In addition, Sandra founded an independent escrow company, Peninsula Escrow, which has grown to seven offices; and is also a partner in Progressive Title Company.

As the woman behind the vision and success of RE/MAX Estate Properties, Sandra is considered one of the industry's icons and outstanding leaders, honored and admired throughout California's real estate community.

Sandra has been consistently awarded with highest accolades from RE/MAX of California and Hawaii, as well as RE/MAX LLC, earning the prestigious "Broker/Owner of the Year" award - the first woman ever to win this award.

In 2011, Sandra was awarded the National Home Ownership Award by RIS Media.

Loyalty, generosity and integrity are words frequently used to describe Sandra.

She remembers and acknowledges her employees' birthdays and other milestones and achievements.

Known as a mentor to young business people, Sandra is generous with her time and talents - always willing to share her business acumen to help others.

Sandra's philanthropic work is equally impressive and far-reaching. Starting locally, Sandra has supported the Norris Center for the Performing Arts, Marymount California University, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, the YWCA, St. John Fisher Church and Rainbow Services.

Her company has provided thousands of meals, toys and other events for the homeless throughout the region. And, reaching back to her home state of Louisiana, Sandra raised significant funds to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Impacting children in over 170 hospitals across the nation, Sandra has spearheaded major fundraising for Children's Miracle Network. She has been an inspiration and leader in involving other professionals from her company and throughout the RE/MAX network to support this worthy cause.

Thanks in large measure to Sandra's leadership and efforts, the Children's Miracle Network hospitals never have to turn away a child in need of treatment.

Real estate industry icon, legendary entrepreneur, philanthropist, leader, mentor, friend, mother and an inspiration to all who know her, Sandra Sanders is honored as the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce's "Citizen of the Year."
