Matser Gardener course to be offered

The Piney Hills Master Gardener's Association has announced they will once again offer their introductory Master Gardener Course beginning this June.

The Piney Hills Master Gardeners are a volunteer organization administered by the LSU AgCenter that serves the community by increasing knowledge of best gardening practices, whether it be vegetable, flower, turf grass or ornamental gardening.

Members of the Piney Hills Master Gardeners work diligently to beautify the community through community gardens, teaching gardens, school gardening projects, garden tours, flower and plant sales, and a host of other activities throughout the year.

The Master Gardener Course is necessary to become a member of the Piney Hills Master Gardener's Association, and all the benefits that come with being a member.

Over the course of seven weeks, those participating in the class will gain a wealth of knowledge about soils, plants, weed identification and control, garden planning, pest identification and control, and a host of other topics.

Classes are held on Thursday mornings at the Webster Parish Extension Office in Minden beginning in June.

This course and membership into the Piney Hills Master Gardener Association is open to all residents of Bienville, Webster, Claiborne, and Bossier Parishes.

Applications for the Master Gardener Course are available at either the Webster Parish or Claiborne Parish Extension Office, and are due by May 10.

For more information on the course, or the Piney Hills Master Gardeners; please contact the Webster Parish Extension Office, 371-1371, or the Claiborne Parish Extension Office, 927-3110.
