A team of three Minden women recently competed in the Rouge-Orleans relay race.
The 126.2 mile continuous race was run along Mississippi River levee from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Team members included Susan Hunter, Dr. Erin Soleto and Shelley Christy. The ladies call their team Hot Legs Racing, and their pit crew were their husbands, Don Hunter, Bob Gilliam and Jay Christy.
The race was held over two days, February 9 and 10.
Race start was 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. The three woman relay team ran from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Each team member ran anywhere from seven to 12 miles on each leg with the rotation starting with Susan, then Erin, and Schelley. There was always one of the team members running at all times. The runners exchanged at designated locations determined by the race management.
Each team member ran approximately 43 miles during the race. There was never any delay at any exchange. Support came from the husbands (pit crew). The night runs were supported by a pit crew member riding a bicycle behind the runner for safety.
The total race time was 23 hours and nine minutes.
