Candlar D. 'C.D.' Cockrell

Cockrell_paper745"C.D." Cockrell, 89, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at 12:12 a.m. in Town and Country Nursing Home.

Visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, December 1, followed by service at 1 p.m. at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Reverend Leon Boggs officiating.

Graveside service will be performed by Minden Masonic Lodge at Homer Cemetery.

C.D. Cockrell was born Jan. 14, 1923 in Haynesville to William Monroe Cockrell and Emma Louis Cockrell. C.D. was married to Jennie "Bee" Cockrell in July of 1943.

C.D. served in World War II with the 436 Troop Carrier 79th Squadron of The United States Air Corp. for 4 years in England, and France. C.D. was a mechanic and pilot in the glider plane division. He was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and was very involved with the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star of North Louisiana. He retired at the age of 62. Family and gardening brought great joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Beatrice Marie Cockrell; seven brothers and sisters; and son-in-law, Ray Giska.

He is survived by his wife Jennie "Bee" Cockrell of 69 blessed years; two children, Sandra Cockrell Giska and Donnie Dodson Cockrell and his wife, Felicia Rose Cockrell; grandchildren, Raymond Giska Jr., Cameron Cockrell, Coy Cockrell; and great-grandchildren, Grace, Noah, Evelyn Giska and Addison Rose Cockrell.

Pall bearers will be Cameron Cockrell, Coy Cockrell, Raymond Giska, Tony Powell, Fletcher McKaymie, and Jim McElwee. Honorary pall bearers are his brothers in the Masonic Lodge, sisters/brothers in the Eastern Star and members of the Searchers of Truth Sunday school class at Lakeview United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lakeview United Methodist Church in Minden. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Doctor Stell and staff, Minden Medical Center nurses and doctors, Town and Country Nursing Home staff and the staff at Agapé.
