Regarding Respect for the American Flag

Dear Editor:

Reading your article about respecting the flag [published Friday, Sept. 27] brought me back to a simpler time. I am a 68 year old man who was raised during a time when patriotism and respect for the flag was not something taken lightly.

Today I still have tears well up when I hear the National Anthem and especially when I hear Taps played. Those two songs represent to me a strong bond to our country and to the flag. The National Anthem representing a beginning and Taps representing an ending.
