Accelerated elementary students will see a new program in schools this year. The STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering (grades 1-3) or English/Language Arts (grades 4-5) and Math program will be offered to the top 50 students in each grade.

"Our state has committed to STEM, especially in the high school and junior high levels, but it is moving into the elementary grades," said Connie Busby, Webster Parish School Board elementary supervisor at Monday night's meeting.
