Lakeside Warriors fall to Northwood, 8-7

SIBLEY — The Bistineau Classic began Thursday with three games.

In the first game, Ouachita Christian defeated Loyola College Prep, 11-0. Ouachita turned around and played the second game, beating Northwood, 5-2. And in the nightcap, Lakeside fell to Northwood, 8-7.

"Northwood got ahead from the get-go, and stayed ahead all the way through," Lakeside coach Bob Gray said. "We had a couple of chances to tie the game, and even go ahead, but we squandered the opportunities."

Northwood scored a run in the top of the first and then two more in the second. They added a solo run in the top of the third, and the Warriors cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Northwood added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, before scoring twice in the top of the sixth.

The Warriors scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, but it wasn't enough.

Austin Ashley took the loss for the Warriors and went two-for-two at the plate. Coulson White went three-for-five, and Thomas Lambert added two hits. Payton Johnston, Cameron Corely and Jake Gray added base hits.

""It was a better effort for our guys last night," Gray said. "We play better every time we play and it's just a matter of time until we get over the hump and start winning some ball games. But right now we're struggling with that because we're struggling with what ball players have to do to win ball games."

Lakeside fell to 1-7 on the season.
