SIBLEY-The Lakeside Warriors won their first district game of the year as they defeated Lake Providence, 64-47, Friday night in Sibley.
"It was good to get the win," Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. "The kids felt great after the game. They have been working real hard and we've been getting better every game, and it finally paid off."
Things were tight early (8-8 in the first quarter, but the Warriors began to build a lead in the second quarter and kept it up the rest of the way.
"It started off close, but we got going a little bit in the second quarter," Gould said. "We out-scored them 15-8 in the second to take a 23-16 halftime lead. Then we came out in the third quarter, and played the best third quarter than we have in a long time."
The Warriors out-scored Lake Providence, 16-12, in the third quarter and 25-19 in the fourth.
"It was really good to come out and play well in the second half," Gould said. "The third quarters have been killing us this year, but we were able to carry over some momentum from the second quarter. We extended our lead in the third and then maintained it in the fourth."
The Warriors were paced by a newcomer, Maurice Moore. Moore left Lakeside during the summer for Glenbrook, but recently re-enrolled at Lakeside.
"Maurice had a breakout game for us," Gould said. "He had 24 points, six rebounds and four assists."
Nyles Moore added nine points and 10 rebounds and Frankie Miles added eight points and nine rebounds. Darryl Moore scored eight points and Davian Whiting scored six. Clayton Festavan added five points.
"It was a good win, but we have a tough week ahead of us," Gould said. "We have three road games, Tuesday at Ferriday, Friday at Homer and Saturday we have a make-up game at Lake Pprovidence."
The Warriors are now 4-18 overall and 1-6 in district play.
