Music Man

Rowland is on the charts

A local recording artist has his first "Top 20" hit as reported by New Music Weekly earlier this month.

Long-time Dubberly resident, Johnny Rowland said determination had much to do with his song, "My Name Is Freedom" making it over radio waves and downloads across America and the world.

"People often get discouraged, especially right now – people are depressed," the 63-year-old musician said. "But it is important to keep working and trying as long as you're alive. It doesn't matter how old you are or if anything ever comes from the work you put into it, it's important to keep trying and stay motivated."

Rowland's music promotes a positive view of patriotism, freedom and God.

"We believed the song, with its patriotic theme, had a good chance of success here in this country," Rowland said. "But we honestly had no idea it would be so well received around the world. I suppose freedom is important no matter where you live."

"My Name Is Freedom" has been played in countries across the globe, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

"The song was in the 'Airplay Access Top Ten Downloads' to radio stations worldwide for five consecutive weeks," Rowland said. "At one point it was the number two download in the world from this radio service."

Rowland said he feels honored and humbled that music he writes and plays has made it to a wide audience.

"There is so much talent here in Webster Parish," Rowland said. "While I'm proud of the music I make, I hope people will be encouraged by seeing that good things do happen when you don't give up."

Rowland's music and current album can be found online at a multiple websites by searching for the song, which is also the album title, "My Name Is Freedom."
