Image Restoration

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" Genesis 1:27. Is that amazing or what?!! Consider the implications of that statement. The following verse indicates God-like characteristics we were to possess. "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth" verse 28. God creates. Man would procreate and have the responsibility and privilege of stewardship over all of this earth's creation exercising dominion as does our God of love. We would be in relationship with Him and one another as the Triune God has been in relationship from times eternal.

God's plan was perfect. There was no excuse for sin. It was a terrible intruder that resulted in the loss of God's image in mankind and defilement of the entire earth. In this lost condition, none could enjoy the purity of heaven, but "whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren" Romans 8:29. He "foreknew" all having made provision for the salvation of all. Yes, the image must and will be restored in those who are willing. It is by "beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, (that we) are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord" 2 Corinthians 3:18. We behold Him by what we watch, read, listen to, and think upon. This is how you can "be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness" Ephesians 4:23, 24.

In speaking with the challenging Pharisees, Jesus stated that a coin belongs to the one whose image it bears (See Mark 12: 13-17). So it is with us. Do we bear the image of our Maker? I pray that each of us will choose to "put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him. . . Christ is all, and in all"

Colossians 3:9-11.
