A Feeling of Pride

IMG 3391

Eric Scoggins works on a bowl he is making as part of the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center's rehabilitation program. Inmates retrieve donated logs and trees to make their own lumber, which means each item crafted by inmates is an original work from start to finish.

Several inmates note the creative outlet provided by the rehabilitation program not only gives them a new skill but also a feeling of pride and worth. Eric and other inmates have their handcrafted items, such as jewelry boxes, for sale at Antiques and Art on Main Street on the third floor. Sale proceeds go to the inmates' accounts at BDCC. Antiques and Art will be open today until 8 p.m. as part of an April Art Stroll. Music, entertainment, refreshments and featured art works will be available.
