SHREVEPORT — The North Webster Knights traveled to Shreveport on Friday to take on the Evangel Eagles in an expected District 1-2A battle,
The game lived up to its billing, as the Knights beat the Eagles, 66-61.
The game was tight throughout, and after a 36-35 halftime lead, the Knights went into the fourth quarter trailing, 43-40.
But Lyntravious Gipson scored 14 of his team-high 31 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Knights to a 26-18 final period and a 66-61 district win.
North Webster led by one point at the end of the first quarter, 18-17, and by one point at half time, 36-35.
In the third quarter, things turned strange as the Eagles ran a stall offense, running much of the time off the clock to shorten the game.
Evangel's Trent Taylor scored 30 points in the game, including three three-pointers in the fourth quarter, but the Knights held on, much in part to Gipson, who made all eight of his fourth-quarter free throws. Including the final two with just eight seconds left to close out the game.
In addition to Gipson's 31 points, Montavious Smith scored 14 and Devin White added 11.
The Knights improved to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in district play, and will host Booker T. Washington tonight and then will play at North Caddo on Friday.
