Funeral services for Mr. Travis Lavelle Thomas, 88, of Ringgold, were held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. in Ringgold First Baptist Church with Dr. Johnnie Adkins and the Rev. Ronnie Osborn officiating.
Burial followed in Providence Cemetery in Ringgold. Visitation was held Friday, June 24, 2011 at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold from 5 until 8 p.m.
Mr. Thomas was born Jan. 30, 1923 in Bienville Parish to D. K. and Ollie Kirkpatrick Thomas, and he went to be with The Lord after a battle with cancer on June 23, 2011 at his home in Ringgold.
He always put God first and his family second. Mr. Thomas was very active in First Baptist Church in Ringgold where he touched many lives.
He was a chairman of the deacons for more than 50 years and served under more than 10 pastors. He taught Sunday school and was on various committees throughout his service to The Lord at First Baptist.
Mr. Thomas was a proud veteran of World War II while serving in the United States Army. He was a building contractor and worked in construction. He built many of the houses that are in Ringgold and surrounding areas. He loved his family and loved to farm and garden. Mr. Thomas was well loved and respected by his community and he will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a beloved daughter, Debbie Thomas.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Mattie Lou Bates Thomas of Ringgold; daughters, Dian Thomas of Ringgold and Denise Myers of Minden; grandchildren, Donna Mitchell Fielding of Henderson, Texas, Travis Myers and Jessie Myers, both of Minden; great grandchildren, Julie Fielding, Dustin Fielding and Thomas Fielding, all of Henderson, Texas; a number of other relatives and friends.Subscribe to Read!
