On August 27, 1945 a lovely baby girl was entrusted to Sally Mae Harper and John Wesley Harper to love and nurture. She was given the name Mary Helen Harper.
Mary Helen Harper was married to D'Louis Hicks. They reared two lovely children, James Gladney and Margaret Ann Gladney Johnson.
She was a comical and carefree woman. Mary lived life to the fullest especially teasing everyone in the family and going to the race track to play her horses, which the family would tease saying "She was on her way to work."
Mary departed this life March 28. She was preceded in death by parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Mary Hicks leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Odessa Hicks; two children, Maragaret Johnson and James Gladney; three grandchildren, Kaki Garner, A'Dovian Johnson, and Jackendrick Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Adrian Flournoy, Ariel Flournoy, A'Zarianne Johnson, Dimanond Sneed and Ja'Haven Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Kennon's Mortuary with Rev. John Fincher, officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is today (Friday, April 5) in the chapel of Kennon's Mortuary from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
