Prentiss Baker Jr., affectionately known as "Plume" was born Dec. 1, 1952 in Shreveport to Prince and Ollie B. Baker, Sr. He was the youngest of three children.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Calm Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully attended and serviced until his demise.
Prentiss met the love of his life, Dorothy Moore, during middle school. They were united in holy matrimony on April 6, 1974. To this union, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Lakisha.
Prentiss graduated from Webster High School in 1970 and attended Louisiana Tech University. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as Sergeant for four years. During basic training, he was commended for attaining the highest scholastic average of his class in the Marine Aviation Supply Course Class C in Millington, Tennessee.
Other honors were extended to him during his service as a United States Marine Officer. After his military service in Beaufort, South Carolina, he resided in Minden and worked for 34 years for the United States Postal Service in Shreveport as a Parcel Post Distribution Machine Clerk until his retirement on April 30, 2008.
Prentiss was a loving, kind, compassionate, gentle and considerate man who gave of himself unselfishly and untiringly. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and loyal and trusted friend. After a courageous battle with his illness, God called him to his eternal home on Friday, August 12, 2011, while surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Donnie Crawford, but he will forever be cherished in the hearts and minds of his loving wife, Dorothy; daughter, Lakisha Williams (George) of Alexandria; his parents, Prince and Ollie B. Baker, Sr., of Minden; his sister, Pearline King (Frank) of American Canyon, California; two granddaughters, Bria Willis and Jaeli' Williams of Alexandria; two aunts, Ruby Mims of Minden and Lessie Baker of Dayton, Ohio; nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Subscribe to Read!
