Schools Soon Out, Graduation Nears

beaversjoshWe've arrived at spring. Though the weather is quite chilly as I write this week's column, by the time the words get to you, dear reader, the thermometer will have surely risen a few degrees. Or so that's what Big Joe Haynes on Channel 3 has told us.

And with spring comes green grass, the smell of grilling, warm weather garb and an eye toward the big break soon to greet school kids around the country. For some of those kids, spring means a little bit more this go around.

For the Class of 2013, the arrival of April means a single thing – there's only one solitary month of high school remaining.
We're nearing graduation season, and with graduation season comes the Press-Herald's annual special edition touting and celebrating this year's senior class.

We are set to publish Graduation 2013 on Thursday, May 9th. Contained within the pages will be photos of this year's seniors from all of our parish high schools.

Now, I've already made contact with school administrators at each of our five parish high schools, but I'm putting this out there once again. The deadline to submit senior portraits is Friday, April 26th.

Two schools, Doyline and Lakeside, have already kindly provided me with their school's photos. We will take the photos electronically, as has been the trend in recent years, either on disc or sent via e-mail.

To the parents, please let us know if you'd like to purchase an advertisement to congratulate your senior or one of your child's classmates. We are running a special for parents and will be happy to work up a great commemorative advertisement for that special member of the Class of 2013.

Graduation is one of our "Big Four" publications of the year, and I know that this year's edition will be the best we have ever produced. I thank everyone in advance who is going to be a part of the section.
