Minden High School wins 2nd place at Discovery Camp

Minden High School wins 2nd place at Discovery Camp

Students and teachers from Minden High School participated in the 2nd Annual Animation and Visual Effects Cyber Discovery Camp at Louisiana State University - Shreveport last week. Throughout the week, teams of six students and two teachers from each school were immersed in the world of digital media through the study of aviation physics and flight simulation, and competed in challenges using 21st century skills. These challenges included flight simulation video games, aviation physics applied to building model planes, virtual aviation navigation competitions and remote-controlled helicopter challenges.

The camp winners were determined by the total of number of points earned by competing in the challenges throughout the week and during the final challenges on the last day of camp. On the final day of camp, teams made presentations to a panel of judges, including Colonel Keith Tiester, Mr. Jim Malone and Dr. Paul Sisson, and then participated in a bonus remote-controlled helicopter challenge. Minden High School earned 2nd place with 775 points and was awarded $750 by the CIC. They will use those funds to purchase technology that will advance the education students obtained at the camp.
