Silas Prentis McEachern

130017153291522688Prentis McEachern was born Dec. 6, 1929 to Wesley and Oma McEachern. He rejoiced as he returned to them and the Lord on Jan. 3, 2013. Also, there to greet him were his brothers, W. C. and Jerry McEachern and sisters, Idessa Tyler and Norma Lee Miller.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 5 at 1 p.m. at Minden Church of Christ.

Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.

Prentis loved playing guitar and singing to his family. He was a bricklayer for more than 50 years and trained dozens of bricklayers in the trade. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity and hard work ethic. No one could tell a story like Pop. His true stories including "the car with no motor" and "the railroad crossing – I see blood" will live on as treasured memories for his family and friends.

Prentis is survived by his wife of more than 45 years, Mary McEachern.

Cherishing his memories are children, Diane Ware (Buddy) of Minden, Betty Jean Miller (Barry) of Dubberly, Tony Smith (Mary) of Calhoun and Lisa LeBlanc.

His grandchildren include Samantha Ellington (Kerry), Tina Kelley (Todd), Chris Shipp (Julie), Ron Smith, Jr., Matthew Smith (Jennifer), Daniel Smith and Katie Smith.

He leaves behind great-grandchildren Jake Shipp, Kenzie Ellington, Emma and Mattie Smith, Hunter "Beaux" Shipp and Jessica and Leonard.

Left behind to treasure his memory will be his brothers, John Earl McEachern (Janet), Denton McEachern (Lottie), Wayne McEachern (Debbie), Gerald McEachern (Wanda), Ellis McEachern (Flo); sisters, Janie Sue Kendrick and Joyce Bolyer; and sister-in-law, Sharon McEachern. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Honoring him as pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearer will be Darrell Smith.

The family would like to thank Leslie Lakes Nursing Home, Dr. Bolger and Minden Medical Center for their care and kindness. Special thanks to Mr. Darrell and Bonnie Smith for the life-long friendship and wonderful neighbors they have been.
