The Minden Lady Tiders won their second District 1-4A game in a row, beating Fair Park, 51-45, Tuesday night at Minden.
"This was a really big win for us," Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown said. "The girls did whatever it took to win, and tonight it took everything we had. I like the progress we're making. Hopefully, we'll push forward with the way we've played the last two games."
The Lady Tiders led early and it was the defense that paced the team.
"I thought we played pretty well defensively," Brown said. "Especially early. I think we forced them into some shots they weren't comfortable with early. We contested every shot and then got the rebound. We held them to 11 points in the first quarter, which is pretty good. Our goal is to hold teams to 10 points per quarter."
The Lady Tiders led, 18-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Fair Park fought back to lead 20-19 at the half.
"We got into some foul trouble in the second quarter," Brown said. "Fair Park went on a 7-0 run to go up, 18-12. We took a timeout to regroup. Our shots weren't falling, so we had to relay on our defense to keep us in the game. We battled back with an 8-2 run to cut the lead to one by halftime."
Fair Park out-scored the Lady Tiders, 16-12, in the third quarter to push their lead to 36-29 going in the fourth.
"Being down seven points, I tried to motivate our girls," Brown said. "I wanted them to be aggressive and stay focused. We started getting some transition baskets and our shots began to fall. We out-scored them 22-9 in the fourth quarter. It was definitely our best offensive quarter. I was pleased with the way our girls stayed composed. We were sloppy at times with the basketball, but we were able to overcome that with our effort and with the way we played."
Carmella Specks led Minden with 17 points and five rebounds. Shabrie Nelson had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Tiaga Pugh added nine points and three rebounds. Metosha Gill scored six points and pulled down eight rebounds, and Tyia Green had five points and five rebounds. JaCourtney Neloms added three points and three rebounds.
