Board member against budget

A 'strong' preliminary budget for the 2012/13 fiscal year, which was presented to members of the Webster Parish School Board at a public hearing last night, was met with concern from board member Ronnie Broughton.

"This budget has gutted the special ed program – it's like taking a catfish and ripping his guts out," he said, noting the program is of special concern to him because of a special needs student in his family.

"I don't know why we had to cut it so deeply," Broughton said. "It has dropped 14 percent just from last year to this year."
