As soon as the last business moved from the shopping center on Homer Road at the intersection with Fincher, heavy equipment moved in and demolition is well under way.
"Weather permitting, in a couple of weeks they will probably have all of these buildings down," said Brent Cooley, building official with the City of Minden. "Then, they will start their site prep work, and you should really start to see some construction going on."
Shamrock Construction of Slidell is the general contractor on a Walgreens Pharmacy which will be built on the property.
"They could have it ready to open for business in six months," Cooley said.
Plans to rework the "cut through" from Fincher road (crossing Homer Road) to Goode Avenue, are no longer in the works, Cooley said.
"There was talk at one time where the access would be made into a real through-street, and then there was talk that it would be cut off," he said. "I have not seen the final plans. We had hoped they (Walgreens) would redevelop the street and dedicate it back to the city, but I think they decided that was too expensive for their project. They may make it accessible only to customers."
