Warriors take Region 2A Track Championship

Chris Lewis and Enrique Soto take five individual titles

The Lakeside Warriors successfully defended their 1-2A Regional Track Title by scoring 162 points to easily outscore Calvary Baptist for first place.

The Lady Warriors finished in the top five of the girls' division.

Their region is made up of Districts 1, 2 and 3, which covers Northwest, Northeast and Central Louisiana. The top three finishers in each event qualified for the upcoming state meet at LSU.

On the track, just like the district meet, Chris Lewis and Enrique Soto won five of the eight individual running events.

Lewis, running into a 30 mph wind, clocked a 10.98 100 meters winning it easily. Lewis also ran away from the field with a 22.0 200 meter time.

Soto also easily won the 800 (2:04), the 1600 (4:46) and the 3200 (10:25). Soto also anchored the fifth place 1600 Relay, which included Roy Doyle, Cody Poe and Brian Bickford.

Poe took two second place finishes, one in the 110 hurdles (15.8) and the 300 hurdles (41.80).

Zach Levesque, using a furious sprint in the last 80 meters, took second in the 3200 running a personal-best of 10:44. In the 800, Bickford was fifth at 2:12.

In the 1600, James Taylor clocked a 5:15 good enough for fifth place. The 800 Relay, made up of Poe, Doyle, Moore and Lewis, finished fourth with a 1:34.0.

In the field events, the Warriors tallied 72 points.

Kameron Cawthon tied his personal-best of 13'6" to win the pole vault. Jecorey Lathan hurled the discus 134' for first place, and then finished second in the shot put at 45'. Michael Stephens took second in the discus at 131'0" and was third in the shot at 44'6".

Darryl Moore, with a personal-best jump of 22'0", placed second in the long jump, and Rodney Jenkins was fifth in the high jump at 6'0".

Aubrey Miles finished second in the javelin, with a throw of 163'6" and T.J. Carpenter was third at 161'0". Carpenter also took third in the high jump with a leap of 6'2".

The Lady Warriors qualified for four events at the sate meet.

In the field, Jasmine Turner took second place in the discus with a personal-best of 102'. Jessica Bridges tied her personal-best of 107' as she placed second in the javelin. On the track, Anna Davidson led the way placing second in the 1600 at 5:56 and second in the 3200 at 13:10.

The next action for all the top three finishers will be at the Class 2A State Meet on Friday, May 6. The State Meet will be held at the Bernie Moore Track Complex on the campus of LSU.

Field events begin at 1"30 p.m., and the running events begin at 5 p.m.
