Local man could be looking at more charges
A Minden man who took his mother’s car without permission is temporarily grounded at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton said Dep. Wade Wells and Lt. Luster Coleman arrested Richard Smith III, 18, of the 200 block of Treat Drive, and charged him with unauthorized use of a moveable and simple criminal damage to property.
“There will likely be more charges,” Sexton said. “Warrants are pending for domestic abuse battery and simple assault.”
The sheriff said Wells was dispatched to Treat Drive on a domestic disturbance call that was allegedly physical in nature.
“Dispatch advised the male subject had left the residence in his mother’s vehicle without permission,” Sexton said.
“When the deputy arrived and talked with the complainant, she told him that she was having an argument with her son (Smith) and that he pushed her and threatened her.”
During the altercation, Smith allegedly told her he was leaving and exited the residence. Shortly after walking out of the residence, Smith reportedly knocked on the door and told his mother he wanted his personal items.
“According to his mother, while she was collecting his belongings, Smith became suspicious that she was calling 9-1-1 and began kicking the front door,” Sexton said. “She said she ran out the front door to get away from him as he kicked it open.”
At that point, Smith took his mother’s 2004 Ford pick-up truck and drove away from the residence without her permission.
Although Smith returned to the residence with the truck, the complainant filed charges, and he was taken into custody.Subscribe to Read!
