This spring is very important to the 2011 Minden Crimson Tide football team as the team has a number of holes to fill on both sides of the ball.
Head coach Randy Peters has been pleased with what he’s seen so far.
“It’s been real good,” he said. “The kids have great attitudes and they’re working hard. Our numbers are there and our coaches are coaching, so it”s been good.”
Peters is confident that the team has the players necessary to fill their holes.
“We have to replace a number of players, but we return a number of skill players,” he said. “We have a couple of holes to fill on the offensive line, but they’re working hard and coming at it. Defensively, we return our ends and linebackers, but we have a few spots to fill in the secondary, but the kids are working hard.”
Maybe the biggest hole Peters has to fill is at quarterback. Hunter Leppert graduates this spring and the Tide doesn’t have an experienced player to promote. Peters said the kids at the position have been looking good, but he didn’t want to single any one player out right now.
“I’ll tell you what, as a group they’re coming together,” he said. “We made a position move with one youngster that we think will pay off in our spread game, and we have a couple of young guys that will be more multiple. But I would say that the progress at the position is on track and the kids are learning every day.”
The Tide will play their Red/White spring game next Thursday at 6 p.m.
