Winston T. Smith, 74, of Loganville, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Dr. Charles Parrish and Pastor Tim Brogan will officiate. Burial will follow at Gwinnett Memorial Park, Lawrenceville.
Mr. Smith was a member of Grayson First Baptist Church and a member of the Carpenters Sunday School Class.
He was retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 42 years of service and was an umpire for more than 27 yeas at The Lilburn Lions Club Park. Mr. Smith was very active in the Lilburn Basketball Association for more than 25 years and was also an umpire in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series for two years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wanda Smith; children, Winston Dewitt Smith of Cleveland, Wendell and Beth Smith of Athens, Wayne and Staley Smith of Winder and Wendi and Kerry Pitts of Watkinsville; sister, Anne and Truman Hedgecock of Arkansas; grandchildren, Makaila Smith, Winston Smith, II, Virginia Smith, Rachel Smith, Paul Smith, Brackin Smith, Reed Smith, Lilly Ann Smith, Mackenzie Pitts and Anderson Pitts.
Family will receive friends from 5 until 9 p.m. today, (Tuesday, April 26, 2011) and from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road, SW, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Call 770-962-3100 for information.
