Local competes in U.S. Open Taekwondo Championships

Juli McFarland, daughter of Dianne and the late Ted McFarland, competed in the recent US Open Taekwondo Championships held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event is one of the most prestigious Taekwondo Tournaments in the World with more than 2,000 athletes from 60 different countries.

McFarland, a member of USA Taekwondo said: "This was my first time competing at such a high level in Olympic Style Taekwondo. It was amazing getting to represent my country. It was one of the proudest moments of my life."

This summer she will compete in the USA Taekwondo Nationals, which is a qualifier for the National Team Trials.

"It is difficult competing on the Olympic level, but I am going to go as far as this road takes me," she said. "You should never give up on your dreams."
