"But when He had turned about and looked on His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind Me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men." (Mark 8:33)
In life it can be a struggle for some to stay on course, especially when you do not know your purpose in life. Your purpose is the reason why you exist. It is purpose that drives you toward your God ordained destiny in life. It is purpose that gives you a finish line to look toward. If you do not understand where you are going and what your assignment is, you have nothing driving you toward your destiny.
When we look at the scripture above we see Peter not fully comprehending Jesus' purpose. From the moment Jesus was born there was a purpose. A journey that would lead Him to the cross for all of humanity to receive eternal life, and a new way of relation between man and God. When we look at the life of Joseph, we realize that he encountered many things in life that challenged him, but there was a purpose.
One would wonder why Jesus would rebuke His own disciple. Jesus realized that anything that stood in the way of His God ordained purpose was of Satan. If you are going to stay on course in life, you must know your purpose. You must also stay focused on your assignment as Jesus did. You too must fight off anything that tries to stand in between you and your purpose. And if you are going to stay on course you must not view thing in a carnal manner as Peter did in this text, but see things in the spirit as Jesus did. Everybody did not understand Jesus' purpose, but He was determined that not even the people that mattered the most to Him would not hinder Him from His purpose. It takes this mindset, especially when your purpose is on the line. Stay on Course.
