Edwards’ Bid for Congress

Somewhat reminiscent of Earl Long's last campaign, that being a race for Congress in the old 8th District of Louisiana in 1960, former Gov. Edwin Edwards declared his candidacy for Congress Monday in Baton Rouge.

Fittingly, Edwards announced his intentions at a casino. Now 86 years of age, Edwards hopes to succeed 6th District Congressman Bill Cassidy, a Republican who is giving up his seat in the U.S. House to oppose U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu.
