The Minden Crimson Tide dropped to below .500 (11-12) with a 6-5 loss to Benton on Saturday at Griffith Stadium. The loss dropped the Tide to 4-2 in district play.
Benton (18-8, 6-1) jumped out 4-1 on the Tide and led 6-2 before a furious Minden comeback. Minden's Austin Sumner ripped a two-run home run to cut the lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, and then Hutton Leppert closed the gap even more with a solo home run. Neither team scored in the final two innings to make the final, 6-5 Benton.
Mikey James and Caleb Jones also homered in the game for the Crimson Tide during the first two innings.
James went two-for-four with a home run, and Sumner added a two-run homer. Jones and Leppert both homered and Turner Francis went two-for-four with a double and a single.
Jay Beene started and took the loss for the Tide, and Carson Bolyer three scoreless innings in relief.
