The Minden High soccer teams played their home openers last night at the Pit at Minden High. Both teams lost to Ruston by identical scores of 6-0, but head coach Tracy Lee was not discouraged.
"Although both teams lost, we saw great improvement from them both," he said. "Our defense and midfielders on the girls' team are working more in sync with each passing game. The other coaches even made comments on our girls' improvement over the last year."
Lee was also pleased with his boys' team.
"Although the boys lost, they had a turning point in the game," he said. "They held Ruston to only two goals in the last 60 minutes of the game. The mid fielders on the boys team stepped up and kept constant pressure on the Ruston players allowing them only a few opportunities to shoot."
In the girls' game, goalie Kersten Lee had 16 saves and Deanna Hodges, Katelyn Kendrick, Rachel Abney, Chelsea Shaw and Kaitlin Kilcrease combined for 11 defensive stops. Edith Talamayan had two shots on goal.
For the boys, Ryan Milsap and Galan Delgado both had two shots on goal and Hunter Sandlin had one.
The two teams will host West Ouachita Thursday in two more games.
Also Thursday, the team will be selling jambalaya plates at the gate to help support the program.
