BOSSIER — The Minden High soccer teams opened their 2012 season with a split of games with Haughton at Tinsley Park in Bossier.
The Lady Tiders won 2-1, while the boys fell, 7-1.
In the girls' game, Edith Talamayan led the Lady Tiders with two goals.
"We played a tough game," Minden coach Tracey Lee said. "Haughton came out quickly on the attack and controlled the ball game for the first 20 minutes. After that it was back and forth for both teams. Both teams were battling injuries and exhaustion after the first 40 minutes.
Talamyan had seven shots on goal and Bailey Hassell had two. Minden goalie Kersten Lee had 10 saves and allowed only one goal.
Defensively, the Lady Tiders had a total of 11 stops by their defensive backs Katelyn Kendrick, Rachel Abney, Chelsea Shaw and Kaitlin Kilcrease.
The Crimson Tide fell to Haughton, 7-1, as forward Ryan Milsap scored the lone goal.
Both teams will be in action tonight as Minden High host Ruston in a pair of games at the Pit at W.W.Williams Field.
