Jimmy Allums

Jimmy_AllumsOn Sept. 26, 1937, Jimmy D. Allums was born to Henry Allums and Bessie Lee Cornelius. After 75 years, he departed this life on Jan. 2, 2013.

At an early age, Jimmy accepted Christ at Rosum Hill Baptist Church, later named Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. In the early 1980's, Jimmy rededicated himself to Christ. He served in various positions: deacon, church treasurer and member of the Finance Committee. He attended and rendered services at Mount Pilgrim until his death.

On Feb. 7, 1960, Jimmy was united in holy matrimony to Wilma Jean Hill. Under the umbrella of this union, Jimmy and Wilma nurtured five wonderful children, Dione, David, Rhonda, Shonda (deceased) and Tonia.

Jimmy was a member of the Webster High School Class of 1958. He served a number of years as class president of the 1958 Webster High School Reunion Committee.

Jimmy was committed to his obligations as a deacon, which resulted in the nurturing of members in the community through his church and volunteer services at UCAP.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; three brothers, Robert English, Clyde Allums and Henry Allums, Jr.; and sister, Daisy Mae Jones.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his memories a loving, devoted wife, Wilma; four children, Dione Frazier (Rodell), Flower Mound, Texas, David Patterson, Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Rhonda Malone (Roy), Rancho Cucamonga, California and Tonia Stanley (Tommy), Minden; a son he raised as his own, Andre' Neaveaux, New Orleans; nine grandchildren, Coy Stephenson, Jade Montgomery, Jatoria Montgomery, Chuntavia Frazier, Jarred Montgomery, Shardae' Patterson, Javontae' Durham, Rodell Frazier, Jr. and David Patterson, Jr.

He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Courtland Stephenson Powell and JaKerryon Montgomery; two sisters, Carrie Lawrence, Mantecca, California and Estelle Halligan, Minden; brother, Nathaniel Allums, Antioch, California; two sisters-in-law, Lucille English and Jan Allums; aunt, Martha Rice, Pontiac, Michigan; special cousin, Martha Jean Clark, Pontiac, Michigan; many special little angels including Ada Faith and Leigha Ocie Kennon-Gilbert and Bryson Dale Hardman; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Hawkins officiating. Interment will be at Allen Cemetery.

Visitation is today (Friday, January 11) from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the chapel of Kennon's Mortuary with family hour from 7 until 8 p.m. at Good Samaritan Baptist Church.
