Minden Continentals Place Third at Dixie World Series

The Minden Continentals traveled to Searcy, Ark, over the weekend to participate in the Dixie World Series.

Beginning on Saturday, the local team played a host of teams from across the region. And thanks to some great hitting and teamwork, the Continentals placed third overall.

Players on the team include Maddox Mandino, Peyton Wells, Landon Hopkins, Roman Tolbert, CJ Watts, Andrew Fegley, Dylan Miller, Connor Humphreys, Jake Wilkins, Cason Clemons, Kenny James and Andrew Cooper.

In Saturday action, the Continentals earned two wins to one loss.

Against Hallsville, the Minden team earned a 7-2 opening game victory. Leading the way were Mandino with 2 singles, Wells with a double, Tolbert with a double, Fegley with 2 singles, Wilkins with a double and James with a single.

In the second game, Minden lost to the Shreveport Nationals 12-10.

In that game, Mandino had 2 singles and Wells added a double. Tolbert blasted a double and a home run. Both Fegley and C.J. Watts each added a double and a single. Hopkins, Humphreys, Wilkins and Clemons all added singles. Dylan Miller contributed a double.

In the team's third game on Saturday they defeated Texarkana 8-0. Mandino, Wells, Fegley and Watts all had singles. And Tolbert added a double in the win.

On Sunday, the team played three games in a row, spending more than six straight hours on the field. All three games ended in Minden victories.

Minden 11 - Nacogdoches 7

Mandino, Tolbert, Fegley and Miller each had a pair of singles. Wells and Hopkins each had a double. Watts, Humphreys, Wilkins and James each had singles.

Minden 10 –

Ashdown 0

Tolbert had a triple and a double. Wells and Watts each had a pair of singles. Hopkins added a triple, and Miller and Clemons each had singles.

Minden 6 – Searcy 5

Wells had 2 singles and a double. Tolbert added a pair of singles. Watts and Hopkins each had a double, and Feagley and Wilkins contributed singles.

On Monday, Minden played a pair of games and came up short in both, ending their tourney run.

Minden 1 - Shreveport Americans 3

In the loss, Clemons had a pair of singles. Others with hits included Mandino, Wells, Fegley, Watts and Miller. Each had a single.

Minden 1 - Nacogdoches 9

Wells had 2 doubles. Tolbert had 3 singles. Both Fegley and Watts had a pair of singles. Cooper had a double. Mandino and Humphreys each had a single.

In other action at the tournament, Roman Tolbert had a great showing during a Home Run Derby following Opening Ceremonies on Friday.

Tolbert hit three home runs in three chances. He finished 8th overall out of more than 100 players participating in the Home Run Derby.
