Officers look to advance

Three Minden Police Officers have a shot at promotions at tonight's meeting of the Minden City Council.

With recommendations from Chief Steve Cropper, council members will vote on promotions for Ofc. Tokia Whiting to the rank of sergeant and officers Chase Wimberly and Shawn Jenkins to Officers First Class.

All were required to take Fire and Police Civil Service examinations before being considered.

New church

Another item on the council agenda is a request from Minden Baptist Church to construct a new building at the corner of Industrial Drive and Ryan's Way.

According to a letter from Josh Beshea, pastor, the church is currently located at 800 Yale Street.

The members have purchased 3.29 acres for $45,000 with building contingent on the church's ability to obtain financing from a banking institution and permission to build from the council.

Other business

Other items on the agenda include the following:

A resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement with the state through the office of Facility and Planning Control and execute documents pertaining to Capital Outlay funds for the planning and construction of a potable water ground storage tank; and,

 Hear the monthly police report.
