"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition, as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need, before you ask Him." Matthew 6:7-8 NASB
The pagan Gentiles were known for long-winded prayers saying the same thing over and over, hoping their gods would hear their many words.
These meaningless prayers were commonly practiced in Jesus' day. Jesus declared that such wordy prayers were not needed. God the Father does not need to be informed about our needs because He already knows them. Instead prayer is more importantly, focusing our minds on the things of God.
Lord Jesus, let the words of my prayers be a true and honest expression of my heart's desire. Let them be centered on You that I may know and experience a deeper relationship with You.
