Old-timers like me remember the popular TV show of the 50's - I'VE GOT A SECRET. Each week Gary Moore would MC the panel who tried to guess the "secret" of the guest. The three panelists were given clues to drill the guest, seeking to uncover the secret. We all have played games of this
sort or drilled friends to 'tell us their secret'. Well, Paul reveals to us a secret he said God had consealed from man through the ages. In Ephesians 3, Paul helps these Gentiles to understand the great depths of God's love for them and all mankind.
Paul had mentioned this revelation in an earlier letter (3:2-3). "God showed me this secret plan of His that the Gentiles are included in His plan (of salvation)". In 3:5, he continues, "In olden times God did not share this plan with His people, but now He has revealed it by the Holy Spirit...". This is the secret: "The Gentiles (non-Jews) will have their full share of God's riches, inherited by God's sons (equal to the Jews' inheritance);....and all of God's promises of mighty blessings through Christ apply to both of them when they accept the Good News about Jesus Christ and what He has done for them."
Wow! Then he shared this powerful statement that should be the testimony of every Christian: "God has given me the wonderful privilege of telling everyone about this plan of His..." (3:7). So now, we are charged with the commission of "sharing this secret with everyone!
How can we be a silent believer? We can't! God's love is so powerful, we cannot keep it to ourselves.
When Christ comes into our lives, we are 'overtaken' by God's love (1 John). Jesus promised He would send the Holy Spirit to reside in us to be our personal Comforter(John 14). By the power of Cross, Burial and Resurrection of Christ, the Spirit indwells us individually.(Acts 1:8) We have a personal relationship with this Eternal God and His Son, Jesus, the Christ. So this mystery of God's salvation through Christ (John 3:16) must be shared with all around us. Like the Ephesians, we find many around us who have never 'heard the plan of salvation'.
The secret of God's love is proclaimed around the world by thousands who "go". Many of us will never be able to go abroad to share like this. But the good news is 'the world has come to our doorsteps.' The secret to eternal life now can be freely shared with 'people groups' here in our country. This Good News must be shared with those around us.day-by-day: family members, co-workers, neighbors, friends, fellow students, teachers, service providers...yes, everyone! Remember we are sharing the Keys to Eternal Life. So, let's not keep this a secret any longer: be like Paul and share the Good News everywhere we go, with everyone we meet, so that they, too, can enjoy the rewards of living the Christian life NOW and spending eternity with all the saints of God.
