Fundraiser scheduled for ill restaurant owner

A year after a Leukemia diagnosis and an unsuccessful bone marrow transplant, Hollis Hughes' employees at Cissie's Exacta Inn Restaurant are asking for support from the Minden community for their boss.

His employees have organized a fish fry fundraiser set for Wednesday, April 3 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Cissie's in Exacta Inn, located at 1404 Sibley Rd.

Plates at $8.50 each and advance tickets can be purchased at Cissie's Exacta Inn, Spillers Appliance, Cross Country Management, Citizens National Bank and Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce.

According to Donna Salter, who is managing the restaurant while Hughes and his wife are out, the illness seemed to come on quite suddenly.

"He was putting up groceries at work one day and just started feeling bad, but he wouldn't go to the doctor until the next day," Salter said. "When he did, he didn't come home for a while. We need all the support we can get and lots of prayers – that's the main thing."

Hughes has been at Baylor Hospital in Dallas for a year and is currently preparing for his second transplant.

Hughes has one daughter, two sons and five grandchildren.

Cissie's employees said they greatly appreciate any help or support.

For more information call 377-3200 or 371-0027.

Donations can be made at Citizens National Bank, Homer Road.
