LEARNED, MS. — The Glenbrook Apaches were eliminated from the MAIS playoffs after a 64-54 loss to Mt. Salus Christian School Monday night. The Apaches finished the season with a 27-7 record.
"It was just a disappointing game," Glenbrook head coach Todd Spurlock said. "It was not the way we wanted to end it. You'd like to say you were beaten by a better team that just out-played you, but I was very disappointed with the way we played last night. I don't think we came ready to play."
Mt. Salus led 8-4 after the first quarter and 24-18 at the half. The Apaches trailed 43-38 going into the final quarter before falling 64-54.
Cade Spurlock led the Apaches with 35 points and Caleb Wilson scored 12. Sam Marvin added four points.
"We fell a couple of games short of our goals this year," Todd Spurlock said. "We wanted to make the Final Four and win 30 ball games, so we fell a couple of games short on both counts. We came close, but in the end, you have to play hard on a consistent basis, and when you don't do that, you don't achieve the things you want to achieve."
Despite being disappointed, Spurlock said the team should be proud of what they accomplished this year.
"The way it all finished doesn't take away from some of the great moments we've had," he said. "We had more end of the game thrillers than I've ever been a part of, and we won most of them. We just need to put this game behind us and forget it, and remember all the good things that happened."
One of those good things was that Senior Cade Spurlock was selected as a MAIS All-Star and will be playing in the upcoming MAIS All-Star Game.
