DOYLINE — The Doyline Lady Panthers rolled past Grace Christian, 46-32, Monday night in a LHSAA Class B first-round playoff game.
The Lady Apaches now advance to Thursday's second-round, where they will face the #2 seed, the Fairview Lady Panthers who beat Zwolle, 93-31, Monday night.
"I thought the girls played well," Lady Panthers head coach Michael Normand said. "I thought the key to the game was our inside rebounding. I thought Amber Ary did a great job, she controlled the boards for us."
The Lady Panthers led the whole way. They had a slight lead, 8-7 after the first quarter and then pushed it to 19-13 at the half. Doyline out-scored Grace Christian, 16-12, in the third quarter and closed out the game with an 11-7 fourth quarter.
"I thought Bessie Waller was a real spark in the third quarter," Normand said. "She came in and scored 10 points in the quarter to lead us."
Normand made a defensive decision that really led to the win.
"I thought Grace Christian had one very solid girl, one of the best we've seen all year," he said. "So we went to a box-and-one on her. I thought Sabrina Nelson and Kayla Thomas did a good job switching out on her. Their defense held her to just three points. That defense and our rebounding was really the top two keys to the game."
