The Glenbrook Apaches and Lady Apaches closed out their regular seasons with a pair of wins over Franklin Academy and will now wait for the pairings for next week's MAIS playoffs.
The Apaches won with their second-straight buzzer beating win over the Cougars, 64-63, as Cade Spurlock stepped up again with the game winner. The Lady Apaches rolled past the Lady Cougars, 60-28.
"It couldn't have been scripted any better," Apache head coach Todd Spurlock said. "It was Senior Night. It was a packed crowd and it was another buzzer beater."
Senior Night was made even more special as the Apaches two seniors, Cade Spurlock and Jalen Patterson, played pivotal roles in the win.
Franklin led 61-60 late in the fourth quarter when Patterson hit a jumper to put the Apaches up, 62-61 with 12 seconds left. Franklin came back and hit two free throws to retake the lead, 63-62, with 6.3 seconds left.
After a timeout, the Apaches inbounded the ball to Spurlock, who drove the length of the court and hit the game winner from inside the lane.
"Our two seniors made huge shots down the stretch," coach Spurlock said. "It's been incredible , over the last few weeks, we're four-for-four on buzzer beaters. It was just a great win in front of a packed house."
Spurlock led the Apaches with 28 points and Patterson had 23. Sam Marvin dropped in eight.
The Lady Apaches beat Franklin 60-24.
"We needed this win to make the playoffs and the girls came through," Lady Apache coach Rendi Dillard said. "It was a tough week for us, this was our third game of the week so they really had to dig in and play. Our two seniors, Lauren Sims and Karmen Underwood played great."
Sims led the Lady Apaches with 20 points, and Macie Branch had 13. Jessica Mangrum and Carsin Spurlock both added seven points and Kaitlyn Maloney had five. Hannah Harris scored four and Shelby Nicholas had two.
"The girls are getting better every game," Dillard said. "I am excited to see how we do in South State next week."
