Funeral services for Author "PaPa" Bailey, 66, will be held Saturday, November 24 at noon at the Northwest 14th District Building with Rev. Rickey Alstork officiating. Interment will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetary.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. today (Friday, Nov. 23, 2012) at Benevolent Funeral Home.
Mr. Bailey was born July 13, 1946 to Earnestine and Wiltz Bailey in Homer and passed away Monday Nov. 19, 2012, after a lengthy illness at Meadowview Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnestine and Wiltz Bailey; wife, Betty Eason Bailey; two daughters, JaMeisha Morris and Pearly Charles; two sons, Anthony Bailey and Dayton Morris; companion for 36 years, Dorothy Pearl Brown-Morris.
He loved the outdoors, gardening, making fires, enjoying nature and simplicity.
He owned Bailey's Lawn Service and was employed with Louisiana Ammunition plant, ConAgra, and Waste Management. Papa Bailey was a hard worker and loved his family and friends. He was known for his creative flower and yard work. He will now be up there sowing flowers and weeds.
He is survived by his five daughters, Terry (Tony) Hendon, Cherry (Darron) Wills, Betty Jean Bailey, Betty Ann Bailey, Nodkeshia Morris, Carol (Rickey) Frazier and Daphne (James) Wilson, all of Minden; four sons, James Bailey Jr., Charles Morris, Jeffery Morris, all of Minden and Christopher Morris of Norfolk, Virginia; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Dixon Arlington, Texas, Lizzie (Gene) Mitchell, Christell (Robert) Jackson, Ursula Clark and Christina Bailey, all of Minden; five brothers, Willie (DeLoice) Combs, Wilson Bailey, Mack Bailey, Ray (Patricia) Bailey and Martin (Monique) Bailey; one aunt, Ruth Merritt, New Orleans; many nieces, nephews and friends; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Cloy Gamble and Carol Aryes.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Bolger and staff at Amedisya Hospice, LSUMC Fiesta Weller Cancer Center and Meadowview Nursing Home.
