Future in the air

School system employees must wait to learn fate

Webster Parish School Board employees will have to wait a little longer before they know whom or what is in the superintendent's budget reduction plan.

Previously the schedule was to present the plan to meet the financial deficit of the school district to the board at the February 27 meeting but, according to WP Superintendent Steve Dozier, due to policy, an adjustment must be made in the schedule for the presentation.

"The court order/board policy requires that the board first looks at the revenue situation and then declares that a reduction would be necessary and notifies all concerned at the school site," Dozier said.

According to SECTION 3. of the Board's Preliminary Determination and Statement:

"If the Board decides that for necessary reasons, such as a state of financial exigency exists or is imminent, or a program change has occurred or should seriously be considered, and reduction of the employment of one or more employees may be a required consequence of such circumstances, it shall take action in an official Board meeting that identifies with reasonable particularity the reasons causing such concerns which may result in reduction of personnel. Simultaneously, Board action shall be published by any means reasonable, including publishing in the Board's official journal and posted in every school, calculated to bring it to the attention of school personnel that reduction of personnel might be necessary.

"At the February 27 meeting, I will present the deficit numbers based upon the adopted budget for SY (school year) 2011-2012 and also show the loss of student comparison from Feb. 1, 2011 to Feb. 1, 2012.

"This date is what the budget is built on," Dozier said. "Our number of students reduced and therefore our revenue for the upcoming school year will be reduced."

During the February 27 meeting, continued Dozier, "the board will be asked to look at the numbers and decide if a financial exigency exists that will result in the reduction of employees. If so, a notice will need to be posted at each school and in the Minden Press-Herald stating as much."

Dozier will present a plan for the board to consider at the following meeting.

Children can pray in public school, there is nothing keeping them from praying silently, anytime they want......in fact most of my prayers are silent ones....

I am an eternal optimist,I believe that if we put our minds to it we will succeed.....this is afterall America,,,,,
I believe there is NO constructive value in "name calling"...
Success will take ALL parents, grandparents,ed ucators, community leaders....we simply must do a better job.......
If positions are cut we might consider some volunteer service for responsible adults....to help out in some way....It will all depend on Mr Doziers and SB actions.....I dont know...yet......but surely we can come up with something and quit the whining......

My children go to Glenbrook, and I am not a racist!! I don't want my children subjected to things that go on in public schools. Such as children who are not disciplined and disrupt class all day!! I don't care if these children are black, white, or purple. I just don't want them disrupting my child's learning. I also like the idea of small classes with more one on one attention. I also like the fact that they are allowed to pray in the morning and before lunch. I can't stand the way people constantly bash Glenbrook and the people who choose to send their children there. Maybe some are racists, but I tend to believe people send their children there for many different reasons!

I thought closing schools in Sarepta/Cotton Valley/Shongaloo was the answer to all of our financial problems? Didn't Mr. Edens and the plumber convince the board that? Are we any better off?

YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT! We told them that people would leave the parish and we would lose students if the consolidation went through! So now things are worse ALL THE WAY AROUND for the parish AND the students! Now I am just waiting to see what happens next!!!!!!!!!

I don't know, but I seriously doubt that there are any "shareholders" at Glenbrook. It is bound to be a non-profit organization that was formed by racists and white supremacists in 1970, in response to the court ordered integration of public schools in the South.

I don't know why the commentators here are so hostile to Glenbrook. By keeping their children out of the public schools they are not doing anything but helping us out in trying to pay for the operation of a public school system in Webster Parish. For every 20 or so students who goes to school at Glenbrook, it saves the taypayers of Webster Parish the cost of a public school teacher, as well as all other school expenses. When people complain about the loss of funding from the state because of a decline in number of students, they don't seem to have sense enough to know that that is also taxpayer money that is being saved. I appreciate each and every racists who pays the cost to send their children to Glenbrook.
