MTAC Stingrays hold Awards Banquet


Swimmers receive awards after excellent swim season

The Minden Tennis and Aquatic Club Stingrays recently held their 2011 Awards Banquet. Awards were given in a number of different categories.

Four swimmers were acknowledged for breaking several team records this year. Those members were: Maddox Mandino (Six & Under25 yard back stroke and Six & Under 25-yard Freestyle), Cade Shaw (11 & 12 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard IM), Evie Walker (Eight & Under 25-yard backstroke) and Emma Mayfield (11 & 12 50-yard breast stroke).

There were also a number of swimmers recognized by winning the Coach's Award. These awards were given to one swimmer in each age group that displayed good attitude and worked hard to get better each and every day.

Those winners were: Six & Under Girl-Addison Fields; Six & Under Boy-Colin Herndon, 7-8 Girl- Ella Floyd; 7-8 Boy-Jackson McKinney; 9-10 Girl- Piper Mealey; 9-10 Boy-Carson Fields; 11-12 Girl-Amelia Christy; 11-12 Boy-Jaryn Lindsay; 13-14 Girl- Amanda McLemore; 3-14 Boy-Holter Frye; 15-18 Girl-Heather Stahl and 15-18 Boy-Quinton Martin

High Point Awards were also given out. These awards were given to one swimmer in each age group that scored the most points throughout the season.

Those winners were: Six & Under Girl-Alex Guin; Six & Under Boy-Maddox Mandino; 7-8 Girl-Evie Walker; 7-8 Boy-Jackson Mayfield; 9-10 Girl-Madeline Frye; 9-10 Boy-Haynes Mandino; 11-12 Girl-Emma Mayfield; 11-12 Boy-Cade Shaw; 13-14 Girl-Kenzie Taylor; 13-14 Boy-Josh Wilkins; 15-18 Girl-Bailey Hassell and 15-18 Boy-Cherokee Edwards

The MTAC Stingrays finished out their 2011 swim season with a fourth-place finish at the recent City Meet in Shreveport.

"We competed against 14 other teams at the meet placed fourth overall," MTAC swim coach Emily Walker said. "I am so excited! A team consists of each member trying to achieve his/her best. It's evident the MTAC Stingrays understand what it takes to have a successful team. I am so proud of everyone's effort and dedication."
